Welcome to Borpa’s Kitchen! My name is Kay, but I mainly go by “Borpa”, by my little brothers and sisters. “Borpa“, which translates to ‘Big Sister’ in Bengali, is a term of affection, usually given to the eldest sister of the family. Our mission in Borpa’s Kitchen is to tell stories about the vibrant culture and dishes of Bengali cooking. However, we are not limited to Bengali cooking only! In time, we will be exploring the rest of the culinary world. Together, we will travel to local restaurants, cafes, and shops once this COVID-19 situation is a thing of the past!
Meet My Babies!
As a first-generation Bengali-American from Queens, NY (heeey), I have been collecting family recipes for as long as I can remember. What better way to store recipes online and share them with everyone around the world? I am a proud big sister of two beautiful and successful women. During our earlier years, my parents worked very hard to establish the lives we have today. It was during those years when I was left alone to babysit my sisters, when my parents went off to work, that I learned traditional Bengali cuisine.
Over the years, my family continues to bless me with cousins, and no, I do not have any of my own…yet. They are the heart and soul of why I started this blog in the first place. As I have chased my other dreams and achieved a Masters in Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling, my passion for food evolved along the way.
Dreams, Goals and Giving Back
My dream is not only to pass these recipes down to my children but to feed impoverished families, globally, starting in Bangladesh.
